Did You Know That Belle River Elementary is a  Title I  School

What is Title I?

Title I of the Elementary & Secondary Education Act provides financial assistance to state & local educational agencies to meet the needs of at-risk children. Title I  provides instructional services & financial support  for students not meeting grade level standards.

What is the purpose of Title I?
The purpose of Title I is to improve educational opportunities for the students not performing at grade level by providing additional instruction/ support to help them achieve academically.

How does Tile I work at our school?
First, we identify students who need the most educational assistance based on our district’s standards. Students do NOT have to be from low income families to receive Title I services.  We set goals for improving the skills of students who are having difficulty with grade level standards.  We measure student progress to determine the success of the Title I program for each student.  We develop programs to support/supplement regular classroom instruction.

Belle River Elementary 5th grade students are patrolling the sidewalks at our school.  School Safety Patrol membership is a respected position.  The safety patrol members are to set a positive example, be leaders and take responsibility seriously.  Please take a moment and discuss with your child the importance of listening to the safety patrol members.  We would like to thank our 5th grade teachers for their help with this program.

Dear Belle River Parents,

Wow- what an amazing start to a fun school year! Classrooms are already in full gear with students learning. I have been in classrooms observing students engaged in reading and math and really having fun learning. It is impressive with how hard they are working.

As a principal, I also watch for smiles and children who appear to be happy and relaxed. The entire staff does. We recognize the connection between learning and students’ feeling relaxed and safe. We know that students have to feel safe in order to make learning connections. We see that as a critical part of our job, while also understanding that we need to stretch students to learn to their highest capacity. That balance can be tricky and is sometimes difficult to determine. On top of that the beginning of the year is a time of adjustment. Change impacts children just like it does adults. Let us know if your child is not adjusting and showing signs of stress after a few weeks of school. Please also make certain that your child is getting enough sleep since fatigue often adds to stress and behavior problems for children.

As always, we want to work together to ensure your child is learning in a safe and comfortable learning environment. We appreciate all that you do!

Flu Clinic Coming to Belle River on Friday, September 26th

In partnership with Alana's Foundation, it is our pleasure to offer free on-site flu vaccinations to students attending East China Schools this year.

2014 at Belle River Elementary. Just fill out the paperwork and send it back to school with your child. You do not have to be present. Students will receive the mist during the school day.

Why get a flu vaccine?  The best way to minimize or avoid the spread of flu is to get an annual flu vaccination.   Each year the vaccine protects against new strains, therefore, the vaccine should be administered annually.  Click on the following link to read about Alana's Story:

At Health Heroes, we specialize in on-site flu vaccination clinics.  There is no need for parents to take time off work, check their children out of school, and stand in long lines to receive an annual flu vaccination.  Clinics will be staffed with two (2) state-licensed nurses and one (1) administrative person.   Flu vaccines are provided at NO COST to students, parents, schools or local/state government.   We bill both Medicaid  and private insurance;  however,  we never bill students  or parents for any out of pocket expenses  or deductibles.   Qualifying  uninsured students can be given the vaccine, free of charge.  Student participation is voluntary.

FluMist®, the LAIV Quadrivalent pain-free, nasal spray vaccine will be provided. Flu Zone® IIV4 or injections are also available.  Please complete and sign only one consent form -white form is for the FluMist (LAIV) and green form is for the FluZone (IIV4).  To request a green form for

the injectable FluZone (IIV4), please contact Health Heroes at 888-621-5520.   Both LAIV and IIV4 have been demonstrated to be effective in children and adults; however, several studies have indicated superior efficacy of LAIV in children.  Side effects from the LAIV and IIV4 are considered comparable.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact Health Heroes at 888-621-5520. We hope to see your child in clinic!

Warmest regards,

Sandra Di Salvo
